Value of Carbon Credits

Writer's picture: BjursellBjursell

The search-term "value of carbon credits" might give you an unnecessarily vague answer. Why is that? It's usually confused with the price for carbon credits traded on the Voluntary Carbon Market, also referred to as carbon offsets.

What you probably are looking for, is the value of carbon credits traded on the compliance carbon market, also referred to as carbon permits or carbon allowances.

The prices of these fluctuate depending on which market they are traded in, but the most updated numbers as of February 2025 reads as follows:

value of carbon credits

European Union: ~$75 per tonne.

United Kingdom: ~$42 per tonne.

Australia: ~$34 per tonne.

New Zealand: ~$63 per tonne.

South Korea: ~$6,6 per tonne.

China: ~$0,6 per tonne.
